St Mary's funding boost

David Baker elected to Council

A by-election held on Thursday 28th January saw David Baker of the Labour Party elected to Stone Parish Council after the recent disqualification of another member for non-attendance at meetings.

A relatively low turnout in St John’s Ward (around 19%) saw electors cast more postal votes than attend the polling station which was not altogether surprising for a cold January day.

David Baker lives on Watling Street, is a member of the Borough Council (representing Newtown) and a Governor at the Gateway Primary School.

He said,
“I stood as a candidate previously but was unsuccessful so I am very pleased to have been elected to the parish council. I see a natural link with my role as Borough Member for Newtown and as a member of the Development Control Board I also aim to keep abreast of development affecting the parish.”

David is a keen athlete being a member of the Dartford Harriers and also has plans to run again in this year’s London Marathon.
