COUNCIL TO CO-OPT TO FILL VACANCY

A notice of vacancy was advertised by Stone Parish Council from 9th-26th August 2011, following the sad death of council member Thurza Richards.

Electors from Stone Village Ward were entitled to send a request to the Returning Officer at Dartford Borough Council asking for an election to fill the vacancy.

No requests for an election were recived by the deadline, leaving the Parish Council open to co-opt to fill the vacancy at the next appropriate opportunity.

Subject to approval at September's meeting, the council will invite expressions of interest from prospective candidates to explain why they would like to be considered as a councillor and describing what experience/skills they might bring to the council.

A vote is scheduled to take place at the full council meeting in October to conclude the appointment.

Deadline for receipt of Expressions of Interest is Wednesday 5th October 2011.

Any person co-opted to the council must meet the usual qualifications to be a councillor.

Exciting Opportunity

The role of a councillor is very varied and involves contributing to decisions on local policies and issues affecting residents. Council meetings are held once a month and, on average, being a councillor requires around 10 hour’s commitment per month.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to get involved in real grass roots democracy and influence local services and facilities for the benefit of the community. The Council is also involved with some very exciting projects including recent construction of a new pavilion and events such as Stone Fete.

Candidates wishing to be considered must be a British or Commonwealth citizen, over 21 and on the Electoral Roll. In addition he/she must either have lived or worked in or within three miles of the parish.
