Local elections 5 May 2011
On 5 May 2011 elections will take place to the Scottish Parliament, National Assembly for Wales and Northern Ireland Assembly as well as local elecitons in Northern Ireland and some parts of England. In addition there is a UK-wide referendum scheduled for the same day (see below).
Local elections provide a real opportunity for a local people to contribute towards policy decisions and influence the future of local services.
Stone Parish Council is very active with responsibility for a number of functions including allotments; playgrounds; parks and gardens and events such as Stone Fete and the Remembrance service. A new pavilion is nearing completion, providing a fantastic community facility for activities.
The council was awarded Quality Status in September 2008 in recognition of its high standards. It has also declared eligibility to utilise the ‘Power of Well-Being’ allowing the council to incur expenditure on anything designed to promote the social, economic or environmental well-being of the area. This extends the powers of the council to address local issues that are not ordinarily within their statutory domain.
To ensure eligibility to vote, residents must be included on the electoral register. Those that haven’t already registered can do so until the 14th April 2011. Residents can request a registration form by calling Dartford Electoral Registration Office on 01322 343426 or by printing off a registration form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk. This form must be returned to the Electoral Registration Office at Dartford Borough Council by 5pm 14 April, to vote in May elections.
Further details regarding candidacy and registering as an elector can be obtained from the Electoral Registration Department at Dartford Borough Council on 01322 343426 or by emailing electoral.services@dartford.gov.uk.
