Election called to fill council vacancy
An election has been called to fill a council vacancy, following a request by ten electors from St John’s ward in Stone.
It follows the recent disqualification of Sydney Ahamefula from Stone Parish Council for failing to turn up to council meetings for six consecutive months.
The election will be held on Thursday 28th January at the Brent Primary School from 7am to 10pm to determine the new member.
Three candidates are nominated, David Baker for the Labour Party, Jim Read for the English Democrats and Gary Reynolds for the Conservative Party.

The vacancy provides a real opportunity for a local person to contribute towards policy decisions and influence the future of local services.
Stone Parish Council is very active with responsibility for a number of functions including allotments; playgrounds; parks and gardens and events such as Stone Fete and the Remembrance service. A new pavilion is also planned for construction next summer.
The council was awarded Quality Status in September 2008 in recognition of its high standards. It is currently working towards achieving ‘Power of Well-Being’ eligibility to allow the council to incur expenditure on anything designed to promote the social, economic or environmental well-being of the area. This will extend the powers of the council to address local issues that are not ordinarily within their statutory domain.
To ensure eligibility to vote, residents from St Johns Ward must be included on the electoral register. Those that haven’t already registered can do so until the 13th January 2010. A full list of roads within St John's ward can be viewed here...
