Stone Pit I is a vast area of land at the centre of Stone. Originally excavated for chalk back in the 1930’s, Stone Pit I was re-filled with household waste during the 80’s and has remained as grassland ever since.
Following years of settlement, the profile of the landscape is now not in line with requirements outlined in the original planning application for landfill use. As such, the landowner applied for permission to import a significant amount of inert material to enable re-profiling of the landform to create the foundations for a community parkland.
The application was approved by KCC on 19.09.13
