Do you have memories of Stone when the cement works were here? Did you go to school and play in Stone or nearby? Do you have photos of Stone from when you were young? Do you know anyone who does?
The recently launched Stone History and Memory project wants to capture your memories of Stone and bring together old photos, maps and memorabilia from the area. By sharing these memories and photos we can begin to document and take pride in Stone’s unique history.
We would like to talk to people who have memories of living, working, going to school and playing in Stone. If you are interested or you know someone who might be, do get in touch.

A workshop day and afternoon ramble around Stone took place on Saturday 27 April which aimed to record memories of attendees and create an archive of Stone-related memorabilia. An excellent turnout was seen with attendees immersing themselves in memories of bygone days.
Visitors took part in discussions, entered their own memories onto a working timeline document, and viewed photos and memorabilia brought along or from council archives.
The afternoon saw a ramble to particular spots having relevance to the walkers, which saw each person place a stone at the spot whilst describing the memory of that place to the group.
The activity was a great success and plans are already being made to host another event in the autumn. Sign up to the council’s mailing list to be kept up-to-date with news and events regarding the project…
